Welcome to Grey Friars Lodge 1101, established in 1866, the one thousand one hundred and first Freemasons lodge set up England.

Freemasonary is one of the oldest social and charitable organisations and Grey Friars Lodge 1101 has been meeting for over 155 years in the Reading area.

The roots of modern Freemasonry are based on the medieval stonemasons that built castles and cathedrals in Britain, and it remains as relevant today as it was hundreds of years ago.

All Freemasons use four important guiding principles to help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity.

Greyfriars Lodge 1101 has members from all walks of life, from builders to IT specialists, from office workers to accountants, from undergraduate students to retired police officers.

We welcome new members throughout the year, although sometimes you may have to wait until a meeting when we can bring you in.  Once you have shown an interest, we’d like to have a couple of members to meet with you over a coffee or a beer, and have a social chat, if all good, we need to start the process for you to join which can take a month of so.

Like other Lodge’s our aim is to empower members to be the best they can be – it’s about building character, supporting members as individuals and helping them make a positive contribution to society.

Grey Friars1101 as part of Freemasonry provides a structure for members to come together under these common goals, enabling people to make new friendships, develop themselves and make valuable contributions to charitable causes.
